Writing of Writing Ambition After a Long Hiatus
This blog has been on a long, long hiatus.
Where am I now? Currently unemployed, living with the in-laws. The unemployment was intentional, as I've moved back to the east coast after three years in Portland, OR, so that the fiance can go to law school. I'm looking for a job, but my real ambition is still to work for myself, if not now, then someday. To that end, I'm hoping to hone my writing skills. Since leaving school, I rarely write anything of consequence, and I miss it. I'm currently brainstorming ideas of what I could start a blog about, or other writing I could do for fun and profit. In the meantime, I might post a few things here as warmups.

yes - policy is quite ambiguous which can be bad or good, depending on how ambitious you are.
it could result in a boring job doing something you don't really care about or mind numbing work like regulatory analysis. orrr you could find a niche you really care about.
employers seemed to like the policy background, then again i wasn't applying for any financial or hard business jobs. it depends what you want to do. policy is a lot of economics, statistics, and research. i loved it.
when i was interviewing i looked at a lot of research positions and analyst positions. i ended up as a program officer for the research division of a non-profit.
not a bad gig. good luck with the grad school search!
